Nicky Clark set for new Dundee United deal as club move to fend off city rivals

Nicky Clark will pen a new two-year contract with Dundee United.

Rivals Dundee were keen on pre-contract talks but the Tannadice club were already well down the road of an extension with their top scorer.

Clark has a clause in his contract that he would have hit this month to trigger an extension for next season.

United, however, are keen to reward the striker, who has 10 goals this season, and have offered a deal that will keep him at Tannadice until the summer of 2023.

The paperwork is expected to be signed off this week.

There is also interest from other Premiership clubs in Clark, who would have been ahead of Dundee, if he was to quit Tannadice.

Dundee have already signed United winger Paul McMullan on a pre-contract.

The Tannadice club weren’t in a position to offer a new deal and Dark Blues boss James McPake made a move.

McMullan has since been told he is no longer part of Micky Mellon ’s plans.

Record Sport understands that there has been no contact between the club so far above a move in this window.

Dundee have made it clear they are not prepared to pay a fee to get him early, although United may use it to reduce their wage bill.
