Nicky Campbell accused of shaming daughter after posting picture of messy room

Nicky Campbell had a major dad moment when he criticised his daughter for having an untidy room - but he's now faced a huge backlash online.

The BBC host decided to share a snap of 18-year-old Lilla's mess on Twitter , saying he's "bloody sick of it".

But his rant hasn't gone down well, with some accusing him of publicly shaming her.

In the snap Lilla's bedroom floor is strewn with clothes, handbags, makeup and cuddly toys.

Nicky captioned the post: "This is completely unacceptable. You are nearly 19 years old and I am bloody sick of it.

"I don’t care that you were going to tidy it up. It just really p****s me off."

Many of his followers crticised the post, saying he was being unfair and embarrassing his teenage daughter to his 141,000 followers.

This included Labour MP Helen Goodman, who tweeted: "Really very very unfair use of power imbalance. Most inappropriate."

"In public? Bit harsh," another person posted.

A third said: "Calling out your daughter on Twitter. Class..."

"I couldn't share that - none of our business," a fourth said.

Another wrote: "Wrong to tweet this Nicky. This pic will now follow her for life when she’s making friends, forming relationships, applying for jobs etc. You have invaded her privacy & possibly at some cost to her future. Keep parenting private!"

However, others were a bit more sympathetic.

One said: "Sympathies. Mine is nearly 20 and it’s still like that when she’s back from uni. I get “it’s only clothes” or “I was about to tidy”. I try and shut the door and ignore but it grates!"

"At least her bed appears to be made... one positive point," another joked.

Nicky, who is also dad to Breagha, 21, Kirsty, 16, and Isla, 14, defended the post, saying his daughter was in on the joke.

He tweeted: "She helped with the photo and thinks it’s hilarious. It’s a joke and all teenagers have bedrooms like this."
