Nicki Minaj is facing a major legal and financial shakeup after a Los Angeles judge said she may order the sale of the rapper’s luxury mansion in Hidden Hills. The property, worth around $20 million, is now at the center of a dispute tied to a $500,000 default judgment that went to a security guard who says Minaj’s husband assaulted him during a concert in Germany. The update came Monday from Judge Cindy Pánuco, who made it clear she’s prepared to move forward if the couple continues to stay silent, as reported by Rolling Stone.
This ruling stems from a case involving Thomas Weidenmuller, the security guard who filed for the judgment after Minaj and her husband, Kenneth Petty, allegedly ignored multiple legal notices. He’d already tried other ways to enforce it but got nowhere, which pushed him to seek the forced sale of the home.
Judge Pánuco set another hearing for January 22 and asked for more documents from Bank of America, including mortgage details for the property Minaj bought in October 2022 for $13.3 million. The court wants to confirm how much of that loan has been paid and how much equity Minaj currently has in the home.
Weidenmuller’s claims go back to a 2019 show in Germany. He says he stepped in to defend a female security guard and was then attacked by Petty, who he alleges ambushed him. According to the filings, he needed several surgeries because of the injuries. He originally sought more than $721,000, but the court ultimately awarded about $503,318. His attorneys say selling the mansion would more than cover what he’s owed and estimate that around $6 million could be available after the sale, even with the outstanding $13,258,000 lien and a homestead exemption of $722,151.
What complicates everything is that Nicki Minaj is far from struggling financially. With an estimated net worth topping $150 million, the expectation from the plaintiff’s side was that she would simply pay the judgment. But court documents say she hasn’t responded to any of the payment requests, which is why things have escalated to this point. The filing described her lack of response as the reason the court is now considering such a serious step.
