Nicki Minaj and Kenneth Petty 'welcome first child together'

Nicki Minaj has given birth to her first child with husband Kenneth Petty, according to reports.

Gossip site TMZ has claimed that the rapper, 37, welcomed the baby in a Los Angeles hospital on Wednesday.

The site also reports that Petty, 42, was with Minaj at the time of the birth.

The child’s sex and name are yet to be announced.

Standard Online has contacted Minaj's representative for comment.

Minaj revealed she was expecting in July this year with a vibrant baby bump photoshoot, taken by legendary photographer David LaChapelle.

Sharing the snaps with her 123 million Instagram followers, Minaj wrote: “Love. Marriage. Baby carriage.

“Overflowing with excitement and gratitude. Thank you all for the well wishes.”

The Starships hitmaker began dating her childhood friend Petty in December 2018, before the pair secretly tied the knot in 2019.

Following their marriage, Minaj announced last year that she was retiring from rap to focus on starting a family.

On Twitter, she wrote: “I’ve decided to retire and have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep repping me, do it til the death of me.

“Love you for life.”

However, Minaj’s retirement was short-lived, returning to the stage not long after.

The star, known for her stage personas, zany outfit choices and fast flow, has always spoken frankly about wanting to start a family.

Speaking to Complex Magazine in 2012, Minaj explained: “‘In 2022, I’ll definitely be married and I’ll definitely have my two children. OK, I might have three.

“I really need a boy in my life. A baby boy. Because… I’m so attached to my little brother and I felt like that was my real son.

“And boys, they’re just so, I don’t know… My heart just melts when I see them.”
