Nickelodeon accused by fans of sexualising Ariana Grande as a teen in resurfaced video

Nickelodeon has come under fire from Ariana Grande fans who have accused the children's network of sexualising the songstress when she was a teenager.

Fans were left uncomfortable when a video has resurfaced online of the then 16-year-old singer making a number of sexual references on the show Victorious.

In one scene, Ariana, now 29, put her finger in her mouth, before lying down on her bed and throwing a bottle of water over her face screaming: "I'm soaking wet".

In another unearthed clip from the show, Ariana squeezed a potato while shouting: "Give up the juice", sucked on her big toe as she tried to get it in her mouth.

She also wore a bikini top during a water fight, before one of her male pals ordered her a 'cherry' flavoured slush puppy.

Fans of the songstress took to Twitter to slam the show after the clips went viral.

One wrote: "I always thought it was weird how many sexual undertones there was in the show", while another typed: "This video is disturbing".

"Kinda crazy going back to this. As a kid you watch it and go "wow this is so weird haha" and then you grow up and realize how disturbing this really is"(sic), another fan added.

"I was so disgusted. Never clocked when I was watching this when I was younger", another said.

Victorious ran on Nickelodeon from 2010 to 2013.

The show, which followed aspiring actress Tori Vega and her classmates at performing arts school Hollywood Arts, launched huge careers for Victoria, who played Tori, Ariana, who played Cat, Elizabeth Gillies, who played Jade, and others.

Last year former producer Dan Schneider denied ever trying to sexualise his actors and claims he had been verbally abusive on set in an interview with the New York Times.

The writer, who parted ways from Nickelodeon in 2018, called the claims "ridiculous" and said: "the comedy was totally innocent".

"I couldn’t, and I wouldn’t have the long-term friendships and continued loyalty from so many reputable people if I’d mistreated my actors of any age, especially minors", he said.

"I’m very willing to defend creative things that I believe in", he added.

An investigation into his on-set conduct didn't find any evidence of sexual misconduct.

Mirror Online has contacted Nickelodeon for comment.
