Nickell Robey-Coleman fined $26K for hit on Rex Burkhead in Super Bowl LIII

For the second game in a row, Nickell Robey-Coleman will have to write a check to the NFL for a play he made on the field. First, he was fined $26,739 for hitting Tommylee Lewis in the helmet on controversial no-call in the NFC championship, which helped land the Rams in the Super Bowl.

Now, he has to pay another $26,739 for a hit on Rex Burkhead in the Super Bowl. This one was flagged 15 yards for hitting a defenseless receiver, which led to some outrage among fans because it appeared to be a harmless hit.

Here’s another look at the play:

So in the last three weeks, Robey-Coleman has been fined more than $53,000 for tackles, though he is appealing the hit on Lewis in the NFC championship game. And according to NFL.com, the fines he’s racked up equal about 37 percent of his $142,000 playoff bonus.

Needless to say, he’s probably not thrilled about either fine, especially since this most recent one didn’t help the Rams win a game like it did against the Saints.
