Nick Williams ready to prove the Lions DL ‘can play good football’

Nick Williams might be new to Detroit, but he’s well-acquainted with the Lions after battling them with the division-rival Chicago Bears for the last two seasons. The defensive tackle has seen what the Lions defense can, and could not do up close and personal.

Now that he’s joined the Lions’ den, Williams feels the hunger and senses the budding talent in the defensive line corps. He talked about it in his press conference Zoom this week.

“Man, they hungry for it,” Williams said of the DL unit. “We know the record. We know it’s a pecking order in the NFC North and we’re here to change that this year. They’re very hungry, very well-coached with Bo Davis.”

Davis remains as the DL coach, though the presumptive top three talents from a year ago — Damon Harrison, Mike Daniels and A’Shawn Robinson — are all gone. The new group is bonding and ready to show what they can do, even if they lack the name recognition of last year’s underwhelming collection.

“We’re just ready to get out there and prove to the NFC North, to the black-and-blue division, that we can play good football. And we can. We’ve got the pieces, we’ve got a defense to be able to do that. We believe in ourselves, we believe in each other. And the more we’re on the field with each other, the more confidence we’ll have in each other and we’ll get the job done.”
