Nick Ward working out for Detroit Pistons today

With six days until the 2020 NBA draft, the Detroit Pistons announced this morning that they will be hosting their second former Michigan State player in Nick Ward.

The Pistons tried out guard Matt McQuaid a few weeks ago before bringing in Ward today. It seems like this is largely out of proximity since both players are nearby, but I think either player could be an interesting fit with the Pistons as undrafted free agents.

My money is on McQuaid if either are brought in, but it would certainly be a ton of fun if both players end up in the Drive G-League system. McQuaid’s shooting might give him enough of an edge to garner a two-way contract, allowing him to move between the Pistons and their G-League affiliate.

To my knowledge, this is the first NBA team Ward has worked out for, and I certainly don’t see him as someone who will be drafted, but we will keep an eye on him moving forward as it will likely be a decision between Europe or the G-League.
