Nick Ward, Matt Costello both having very solid Summer Leagues

Nick Ward and Matt Costello were both extremely productive players, and while it’s always been unclear on what their NBA potential was, it’s not exactly surprising to see them flourish in a Summer League setting. Both players have been showing out as some of the more well-rounded contributors in the annual event.

Ward is playing for the Hawks and Costello for the Pistons, and both players have already led their respective teams in plus-minus for a game, which is nothing to sneeze at.

In his first game against Croatia, Matt Costello had 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists. As I mentioned, he also led the team in plus-minus with an impressive +28. In his second game starting against Portland, Costello was highly effective yet again. In just 19 minutes he had 10 points, 8 boards, and a block, placing third in plus-minus with +16.

Nick Ward and the Atlanta Hawks had their first contest of Summer League this afternoon and Ward was really the only Hawk who had a good day. He had 6 points, 5 rebounds, a steal and a block in 18 minutes, and was +14 on the day, good for the best plus-minus on the team. The next highest total was +2, so Ward was really above everyone else in capacity.
