Nick Walsh handed Rangers match role after Celtic controversy as the next VAR officials named

Nick Walsh and Steven McLean will swap roles this weekend as the officiating pair combine again for Rangers v Aberdeen, following on from controversy at Hearts v Celtic.

The pair came in the firing line on VAR'S (video assistant referee) opening weekend in the Premiership. Walsh was the man in the middle while McLean acted as the video official, but their day was marred in controversy. The whistler was lambasted for failing to award Celtic a first half penalty when the ball struck Jambos defender Michael Smith on the arm inside the penalty box.

McLean was busy too as he recommended Walsh award Hearts a spot kick in the first half before ratifying a second penalty after the break. Celtic also had a goal cut off but now they will swap positions with John McCrossan assisting. Willie Collum meanwhile takes charge of Livingston v Celtic on Sunday afternoon after working as VAR ref at Hibs v St Johnstone.

Alan Muir will be in the tech hotseat at Clydesdale House for the Tony Macaroni Arena match with Frank Connor assisting.

It is set up to be a massive game for Rangers after they drew 1-1 with Livingston on Saturday, leaving them four points behind the Hoops in the title race.

Celtic won 4-3 at Hearts and should it go horribly wrong for the Light Blues this weekend, it may leave manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst in a perilous position, with fans already questioning whether he's the man for the job.
