Nick Tompkins: Wales centre returns to boost Saracens promotion push after Dragons loan

Saracens’ bid for promotion back to the Premiership will be boosted by the return of Nick Tompkins, whose loan with Welsh region Dragons has ended.

Tompkins was one of a number of Saracens to leave on loan (others included Ben Earl, Max Malins and Nick Isiekwe) after the club were relegated to the Championship for salary cap infringements.

Tompkins, who has won 10 caps for Wales since his debut in last year’s Six Nations, joined Newport-based Dragons, where he played 14 matches. With the Pro14 season over and their European campaign ending with defeat to Northampton at the weekend, he has now returned to Sarries.

Saracens are expecting to field a strong side, including their England contingent, for Sunday’s Championship meeting with Bedford Blues. They lost their opening fixture to Cornish Pirates, leaving little room for manoeuvre in the race for promotion.

“The club are delighted to welcome Nick back from his loan spell with the Dragons,” said Mark McCall, the Saracens director of rugby.

“He is one of a number of our home grown players who will be key in the development and progression of the club and we are looking forward to working with him again.”
