Nick Saban defends Michigan State HC Mark Dantonio

Mark Dantonio first came to Michigan State at the behest of Nick Saban where he served as an assistant coach for both Saban and Bobby Williams. Saban, who is often criticized by MSU fans (not unfairly) for leaving East Lansing as fast as humanly possible, took the time to defend his former assistant during his weekly teleconference this week.

Here’s what he said:

“First off, I think Mark has done an outstanding job at his time there,” Saban told reporters during his recent teleconference. “Had some very successful seasons, we played them in the College Football Playoff. I think Mark is a great recruiter, MSU is a great place, beautiful campus… I’m sure the expectations are very high there and I think Mark has done a good job meeting those expectations. I think it’s unrealistic to think you are going to have a great team year in and year out… but I think he’s done an outstanding job.”
