Controversial tennis star Nick Kyrgios accused Wimbledon organisers of using fake grass on the courts as he branded the surface "an absolute joke".
The Australian is a good friend of twice All England Club champion Andy Murray but attracts the ire of some fans and pundits for his attitude on the court.
In 2019 he received the biggest fine in ATP history – $113,000 – for verbally abusing and spitting at a chair umpire at the Cincinnati Masters.
Kyrgios has also been banned for a lack of effort in matches he was losing, sometimes appearing not to try to return serves as well as serving his own underarm, and was given a suspended 28 day ban in 2015 for telling Stanislas Wawrinka a rival had "banged your girlfriend".
In his first round win over Frenchman Ugo Humbert the 26-year-old complained the surface was too slow and hadn't been watered but he went even further in his second round tie with Gianluca Mager.
After failing to break the Italian, who tied it up at 5-5 in the first set the Australian could be heard yelling "it's not even real grass!" at the crowd.
And he continued to remonstrate as Kyrgios gave a lecture from the baseline about how the courts at the All England Club should behave.
He said: "I don't know if you know this, but on grass it's supposed to slide away.
"Now it just pops up, it's ridiculous."
And after holding to make it 6-5 the world number 60 continued to forcefully argue his point.
Kyrgios told the umpire: "I feel like I'm playing at Roland Garros. It's an absolute joke."
