Nick Knowles reveals I'm A Celebrity behind-the-scenes secrets about 'hateful' producers

Nick Knowles has revealed some huge secrets about the cast's conduct in the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! jungle last November, which he claims explains the lack of on-screen rows.

Viewers met last year's show with a mix of opinions, with audiences complaining about the campmates' polite nature making the programme 'boring'.

The 2018 series appeared to go remarkably smoothly, shrugging off a trend in previous years of hours of starvation and boredom causing the contestant to set upon one another.

And Nick has now confessed his campmates made a concerted effort not to get angry with each other on camera - much to the alleged annoyance of producers, who he claims tried to rile them up by making their beds wet, reports The Mirror.

Speaking on stage at the Ideal Home Show in London this weekend, Nick claimed show bosses "hated" him by the time he got voted out.

"We decided early on it would be really nice to genuinely try to all get on and not fall out," he revealed.

"The producers were furious with us – honestly they really were," he continued, although a spokesperson for ITV refutes his claims.

"It was us versus the production company. They made it harder and harder," he went on.

"For example on the second day, we decided as you can't talk in camp as there’s 70 cameras there. When the show started we huddled in a place that was hidden by the cameras and decided it was us versus them and if we fall out, they win.

"And we decided Octopus was our safe word so if anyone was getting really angry, what you do is go 'octopus' and it makes you think, 'I'm making myself look a bit of an idiot so I better stop'. So we never fell out and no one got angry.

"There was one point when Noel came in and he said to John about scratching his nuts and John stood up about to get angry, and I walked past him and said octopus and he sat straight back down again. The producers couldn't work it out at all."

Nick also claimed that the show bosses got angry with him for not enjoying the treats bought back to camp from winning the Dingo Dollar challenges.

"The food has no flavour – there's no salt and pepper and it's really difficult to swallow… worse than chewing cardboard. After a few days you're starting to get used to it. Then they send you off on the Dingo Dollar challenge and you come back with a little square of chocolate," Nick went on.

"I said to the guys, if you eat the chocolate it's going to wake up your taste buds and it's going to be really difficult to eat the food again tomorrow. Some like Emily [Atack] didn't mind as she'll eat or drink anything she can get her hands on. Me and James and a few others decided we wouldn't eat them and the production team were getting more and more angry with us.

"They did things like... reducing the amount of food we had when we won the stars. It was inedible. They left the canopy open so all our beds got wet and we had to sleep on wet bedding. Anything to try and wind us up. And the more we stuck together the more it really got on their nerves. They hated me by the end of it."

Ideal Home Show is on at Olympia London from March 22 to April 7, 2019.
