Nick Knowles' plea ahead of heart-wrenching DIY SOS transformation in Northumberland later this month

The team at DIY SOS have once again called upon the public to get involved with the transformation of a Northumberland family's home - following a two year delay on renovation due to the global Coronavirus pandemic.

Nick Knowles and his trusty team are set to change the lives of a Longframlington family, to help accustom their home to cater for Bobbie Owen - who has complex medical needs.

Bobbie's parents currently work constantly to look after the 18-year-old, who suffers from both medical and mental health issues.

And in a bid to help get as many skilled tradesmen on board as possible to complete the selfless project, Nick himself took to social media to ask for assistance from the widespread community.

In an Instagram story posted to his account this afternoon, he wrote: "I'm heading to Northumberland, with @DIYSOS, to help a fantastic family.

"Massive thanks to those taking part, but we still need Painters and Decorators! If you're free any time between 22nd and 30th March, please join us."

In 2020, ChronicleLive reported that BBC’s DIY SOS was going to give them the house they deserve - but sadly due to the pandemic, this was delayed by two years. The team has since issued a renewed appeal and hopes to work with local suppliers, tradesmen, and tradeswomen to create a house that will cater to the family’s needs.

The concern is that the house is unsafe and unsuitable for Bobbie and DIY SOS is hoping to bring four generations of the family together so they can support each other. In addition to Nick's outreach in itself, DIY SOS has previously put out a 'wanted' poster calling upon the help of those in the local area.

It read: "TRADES AND SUPPLIERS OF NORTHUMBERLAND! WE NEED YOU!

"Please come and help us on our build in Longframlington delayed for 2 YEARS due to Covid.

"Starting on the 22nd - 31st March 2022. Come and do something amazing for an incredible family."

Those interested in joining in with the BBC crew can get in touch by emailing diysoslongframlington@bbc.co.uk with their trade, availability, and contact details.
