Nick Knowles on future of DIY SOS and 'computer issues' affecting BBC show

Nick Knowles was swift to clamp down on any suggestion there were going to be no more DIY SOS episodes.

The presenter of the long-running BBC show said three more shows are going to be filmed at the beginning of 2022.

While he also urged any volunteers who have contacted the show via email and not heard back, to let them know, as there have been computer issues.

Knowles, who had to step back from presenting duties for the DIY SOS Children in Need special due to his Shreddies advert, has already been in Bristol filming an episode.

Katie Bloom on twitter seemed to think the series had ended, tweeting on Wednesday night: "@MrNickKnowles I’m slightly worried as to who I’m going to tweet now to beg to fix my house ? #nomorediysos."

There was a quick response from Knowles, 59, who said: "That’s interesting Why do you think there’s no more DIY SOS. I’m filming three new ones at the beginning of next year."

The firs of these will be in Kettering, Northamptonshire, with filming taking place towards the end of January. The show then moves to Stoke in February and Longframlington in March.

Of the 'computer issues', Knowles said to his 159,000 followers: If you have applied by email to help us in any of our DIYSOS builds early next year and haven’t had a reply could you let me know as we’ve been having unsolvable computer issues for about ten years and we can’t afford to lose good people volunteering again. Thank you."

In October 2021, the show came to Bristol's The Ranch Playground in Southmead, completely renovating and transforming the playground that had been damaged by vandals and left in disrepair.

Tradespeople and suppliers came from all over, not just Bristol, such as builder Tom Davis from Wiltshire who said: "I did a build in Swansea last year and I just wanted to do it again." He added that despite initial difficulties to find volunteers, everybody "mucked in" to get the job done.

For more than 20 years, the DIY SOS team has gone to different towns, villages, and cities across the UK to transform the homes of deserving families or repair and transform local community areas.
