Nick Knowles makes urgent DIY SOS plea to Bristol ahead of filming for new episode

DIY SOS is coming to film in Bristol next week and presenter NIck Knowles has said he needs help from the city.

Knowles is back in his hard hat and steel-tapped boots for the latest episode which is being filmed in the Southmead area of the city ahead of broadcast on BBC One in 2022.

The Big Build team will be revamping the Southmead Adventure Playground, in Doncaster Road, and an original appeal for tradespeople to help was made back in September.

But with just filming taking place from next Tuesday (October 19) to Thursday, October 28, there is a still an urgent need for help - with some very specific requests.

In a twitter appeal, Nick Knowles, 59, said: "DIY SOS needs your help. I’m back, we’re back and returning home to Bristol [and] we start in seven days.

"We need 1. tarmacers for tarmac football/basket ball pitch, 2. telehandler drivers, 3. floor fitters and 4. loads of carpenters for adventure playground."

A number of people representing companies or tradespeople got in touch via Twitter and Knowles thanked people for their interest, saying DIY SOS would get in touch.

The Southmead Adventure Playground, known as The Ranch, has been loved and well-used by the community for many years.

But it has fallen into disrepair, suffered from vandalism, and is now unfit for purpose. There was suspected arson there back in May.

For the new 2022 series Knowles, and his team of Billy, Chris and Jules will once again take on Big Builds in limited time - relying on the support of the local community.

What will DIY SOS be doing in Southmead

  • Renovate the dilapidated playground and add exciting new features;
  • Re-build the burnt out ‘forest school’ shelter and clear the overgrown pond for ‘pond dipping’;
  • Re-style the community space to include a new kitchen and games area;
  • Re-lay the badly damaged basketball/football pitch (Multi-Use Games Area).

DIY SOS: The Big Build has been running for more than 20 years with Knowles at the helm - although his Shreddies commercial on TV meant he had to step back from presenting the show's Children in Need special with comedian Rhod Gilbert standing in.

The programme relies on the generosity of the local community of tradespeople and suppliers to help transform the lives of deserving families and communities.
