Nick Knowles makes triumphant DIY SOS return in new series first look after being replaced

Nick Knowles is reportedly set to return to DIY SOS after he was replaced on the show last year.

The 59-year-old left the popular BBC programme after he featured in a Shreddies cereal ad campaign, breaching the broadcaster’s strict advertising rules.

The ad featured Nick playing on his DIY SOS persona as a builder who pours Shreddies into his hard hat.

In the wake of the Shreddies advert Nick was replaced in his DIY SOS hosting duties by comedian Rhod Gilbert.

The popular presenter stepped back from the programme in November and missed out on hosting the 2021 DIY SOS Children In Need special.

However, it was agreed after discussions with the BBC that Nick would leave the programme until the campaign had concluded.

He is now returning to the current season of DIY SOS, which will hit screens next week.

In the wake of his break from the DIY SOS, Nick has been working on Channel 5's Big House Clear Out, which sees the DIY expert and his team transform cluttered homes.

The presenter was recently moved to tears during an episode of the Channel 5 show when he was tasked with transforming the home of Sarah, whose war veteran husband Trevor died aged 55, leaving behind a living legacy of military memorabilia.

Sarah had been struggling to keep on top of Trevor's collection but couldn't bring herself to part with the items which clearly meant so much to her late husband.

But during the show Nick told her that, with her agreement, they had arranged for charity Forgotten Veterans UK to house the items, which left the host in floods of tears.

Sarah lost her husband of 21 years in March of last year when the military veteran suffered a fatal heart attack in Dubai.

The loss was compounded by the fact Sarah, who had been living in the Middle East, had just 30 days for her to pack up and leave the country.

Her return home resulted with a move to her daughter's home, which became piled high with belongings, leaving Sarah locked in her grief surrounded by Trevor's possessions.

Nick explained to Sarah: "I'll make you a promise. You do the tough stuff, get through the emotional bit of getting rid of half your stuff and you’re going to have an amazing house."

In emotional scenes, Nick explained the charity's offer as he added: "To Trevor, that would have been really important, wouldn't it?"

A representative from the charity then explained: "With your permission, we would love to have a photo of your husband and some of the history of his service career. So when the vulnerable veterans come through, they can actually look at your husband as an inspiration to keep going in life."
