Nick Knowles banned from driving for speeding and using phone behind wheel

Nick Knowles has been banned from driving for six months and slapped with a fine of almost £1,500 after admitting speeding and using his phone behind the wheel.

The DIY SOS host, 56, appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court today for sentencing after previously pleading guilty two the two charges via post.

The charges state he exceeded 70mph in a Range Rover on the A417 in Gloucester on January 28.

He was also using a handheld mobile phone while motoring at the same place on the same date, according to court documents.

Knowles looked glum as he entered court after shaving off his trademark beard and he appeared to be sporting a sleek new hair cut.

He previously declared he was ready to face the consequences of his actions.

The telly star told The Sun : "I was advised by some people to get a top lawyer and contest this, but I’ve held my hands up, said I’m guilty (in writing)...

“I’m expecting to get a ban from driving and I will absolutely accept that because what I did was wrong...

“It’s all too easy to drive a bit too fast or read or send a text, but let me be the lesson to everyone, it’s not OK.”

He added that he's learnt his lesson about using his phone behind the wheel and now puts it in the boot to make sure he's not tempted.

Knowles added: "Like many people, I drive thousands of miles a year up and down the country for my work.

The driving ban will be a massive inconvenience for the TV presenter, who previously revealed he drives thousands of miles a year up and down the country for his work.
