Nick Knowles embroiled in DIY SOS row after 'breaking rules' with Shreddies advert

Nick Knowles has become embroiled with BBC bosses over his appearance in a Shreddies advert.

The TV presenter, 58, has appeared on DIY SOS for 21 years but his future is uncertain after inadvertently breaching BBC rules.

Host Nick plays a builder in the cereal advert and is said to be in "absolute torment" over the possibility of losing his presenting job over it.

BBC bosses have reportedly suggested that the ad breaches its advertising rules and that Nick was last month told in a Zoom meeting that he needed to get it pulled - otherwise he would need to quit DIY SOS.

A source told The Sun : "[The BBC] have very strict guidelines when it comes to their talent and advertising and he has already broken them by filming the ads. But Shreddies don’t want to pull the campaign.

“While Nick is technically a free agent, he appears to have used his connection to DIY SOS in the advert which is totally out of order in the eyes of the BBC."

The insider added that Nick had been given an ultimatum and that the decision "may already be out of his hands".

Nick Knowles' reps and the BBC told the Mirror in a joint statement: "Both the BBC and Nick are keen to resolve this matter and are working together to seek a solution."

The Shreddies advert first appeared in February, in which the presenter was referred to as "Nick get it done Knowles".

Nick first began presenting DIY SOS when it first aired in 1999 and has since become a huge hit.

Emotional episodes see Nick's team combined with local volunteers who help a family in need transform their home.

He previously said that he is often left in tears away from the cameras, adding : "I don’t think that moment should be about me.”
