Nick Grimshaw recalls 'chaotic' Radio 1 interview with Harry Styles after boozy BRITs

After 14 years, hundreds of A List celeb guests, and some very memorable hangovers, Nick Grimshaw will hang up his microphone at Radio 1 this afternoon.

And the broadcaster - who has aspirations to move into interior design TV - has spent a decade and a half entertaining us with his celeb pals including Adele, Kate Moss, Katy Perry and Rita Ora, as well as prank calling his mum on air.

But to many of his listeners, turning up to host his breakfast show straight from a Brit Awards afterparty with Harry Styles in tow in 2013 is one his most heroic on air moments.

“I think it was a culturally relevant hangover,” laughs Nick.

“We all made it in, but my producers didn’t!

"That’s why it sounded so mad - because both my producers were asleep on a different floor. It was absolute chaos.

“It was so fun,” he adds. “When I’m out, I hate the party ending - I hate everyone having to go home.

"So I thought if I’ve got to go in, why don’t we make them come in?”

But before bowing out from his drivetime show this afternoon, Nick has advised another former breakfast show host Vick Hope and Jordan North, who will take over the slot, not to think they can enjoy more late nights out.

“In the morning, it’s quite funny - I get hangover hysteria,” he says. “By the afternoon at 2pm, that sort of wears off.”

Nick, who plans to take a break from radio to do up his house and set up an interiors website, deserves a huge lie after his final show airs today on Radio 1 from 2pm - where he’s been told to expect lots of surprises.
