Nick Grimshaw announces he's taking a break from Radio 1 show and who'll replace him

Nick Grimshaw has announced he's taking a well-earned break from his BBC Radio 1 show.

The presenter, 35, is taking a break from his Drivetime show for the next few weeks.

Grimmy announced the news on Instagram as he spoke of his joy at being able to continue broadcasting throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Sharing a snap of himself in the studio, Nick wrote: "Gonna be off for the next few weeks but wanted to say how much I’ve loved doing the radio over the last few very weird months.

"The sense of togetherness we’ve got from listeners has been overwhelming, especially as I’ve been broadcasting from an empty building. Literally talking to a wall so thank you."

Nick went on to explain that presenter Jordan North will be stepping in to take over his show.

He added: "The wonderful @jordannorth1 will be looking after the show, see you in a few"

"Yay yay holibob time," one pal commented.

And fans told Nick to make the most of his time off.

A third commented: "Nooo I’ll miss you you are the highlight! Thank you for keeping me smiling and laughing. See you soon love ya"

Nick presented the Radio 1 Breakfast Show for six years before stepping down in 2018, with Greg James taking over.

In an emotional statement, he said: "It was always my dream to do the breakfast show and I'm very grateful that I got to live my dream every day for what will be nearly six years.

"But six years is a long time and this isn't a forever job. I had the time of my life. I've decided it's time for a change and a new show."

He later explained he'd left the show about struggling with the early mornings that came with it.

He said: "My alarm goes off at ten-to-five each morning and, since the announcement I was leaving, I am like ‘f***ing hell this is well early.

"It’s been harder to wake up than ever. But it has been really fun, I’ve loved it and it’s been good for my brain and myself, just not great for my personal life.

"It does send you a bit mad and sort of becomes your life, because everything you are watching and consuming each day you are trying to produce content for the next morning, because you can’t do it before 5am."
