Nick Foles says his wife encouraged his early return to OTAs

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles spoke with the media after Friday’s practice session, and as most would expect, it was a very emotional meeting as the veteran discussed his wife’s unfortunate miscarriage. Foles also told the media that she was the reason he came back to practice so soon as she encouraged him to be with his teammates as the Jags are trying to bounce back from a five-win season.

“If my wife needed me at home right now, I’d be at home. That’s just me being honest,” Foles said per Mike DiRocco of ESPN. “She’s the one who said, ‘Go, the team needs you right now.’ She knows I’m coming home right away [after practice]. So that’s her. It really is as simple as that. If she says, ‘I need you to stay home,’ I’m going to call the team right now and just say I need to be home. The great thing is the team said as long as I need, whatever I need, they understand. They’ve been wonderful. But at the same time, my wife also knows; she wants me to be here because we’re building something right here.”

As most are aware, Foles was excused from organized team activities earlier this week for what Doug Marrone indicated was a family matter. Later on that week, Tori Foles took to Instagram to announce the unfortunate news, explaining that she had early labor complications this past weekend.

Foles also told the media that he admired his wife’s strength as she is also battling POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), which affects blood circulation and causes many other complication.

She’s way stronger than I’ll ever be,” Foles said Friday. “She’s gone through so much, and people don’t realize it. … She was bedridden, hospitals. She battles that every single day. We’ve gone through so much this past couple of years. We’re going through this now, but she’s so strong. She’s unbelievable.”

Most on the outside looking in like ourselves can’t help but admire the strength of both Nick and Tori as it appears they’ve endured a lot since his NFL career has started. It certainly explains how the quarterback went from overcoming wanting to leave the game to becoming a Super Bowl Champion and bringing the city of Philadelphia their first Lombardi Trophy.
