When learning a new offense with a new quarterback under center, sometimes the installation process for a team can be hindered during organized team activities, but that isn’t the case for the Jacksonville Jaguars according to Nick Foles. The veteran quarterback told the media that installations for the offense have pretty much gone smoothly though there is still a lot for him and the offense to learn.
“There’s obviously a lot of new stuff,” Foles said Thursday “but we’ve been able to go through the install a few times and Flip does a great job of describing it. [Quarterbacks coach] Scott [Milanovich] does a great job in the QB room of really going into more details on the plays. Guys are doing a good job of picking up the installation. We still have a ways to go. I still have a ways to go. There’s still so much for me to learn.”
On top of the jobs Scott Milanovich and John DeFilippo have done breaking down things, it appears Foles’ familiarity with DeFilippo and his concepts definitely have helped. After all, upon landing Foles, coach Doug Marrone did say that part of the reason they signed Foles was to have a quarterback who is ahead of the curve, and it appears to be certainly paying off.
Many media members have raved about Foles’ leadership so far, and the crew over at ESPN 690 AM have even gone as far as saying the team now feels like a “quarterback’s team.” And while there are still multiple practice sessions left, it’s clear that there is a different vibe about how the offense is coming together courtesy of Foles.
