Nick Foles on preseason meeting vs. Eagles: ‘They’re family to me’

Though it’s not written in stone, it appears Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles is set to potentially take on the team he led into Super Bowl LII this Thursday in the Philadelphia Eagles. Of course, with him being an impactful figure of the team’s current roster, there will be a little catching up for Foles to do with his old comrades, who the veteran acknowledged as family Monday after practice.

“It’ll mean a lot to see those guys pregame and catch up with a lot of those guys,” Foles said. “They’re family to me, always will be. So, it’ll be good to see a lot of their faces and talk to them, see how they’re doing. I know they’re grinding through camp as well, so it’ll be good to catch up with a lot of them.”

One could understand why Foles considers his former comrades family as they rallied behind him and supported him to the point where he was able to propel them through two late season surges and become the MVP of Super Bowl LII. However, he still understands that he now has a new family in Jacksonville who he’s pushing to surpass the level of his Eagles comrades.

“I’m going to leave all of those things up to coach,” said Foles when asked if he’d like to play Thursday. “All I’m going to do is handle what I can control and that’s coming out here and competing with my teammates, working hard, studying the film, working in meetings and walkthroughs and whatever he decides I’ll go with.”

Coach Doug Marrone has said in the past that he typically doesn’t make a decision on what starters to play in the preseason until the night before each game. That said, it’s possible he’ll want to see the starters and Foles take the field for at least a series, but it’s also possible he’ll play it safe with certain players, too.
