Report: Nick Foles may have interest in joining Giants

The New York Giants intend on sticking with quarterback Eli Manning in 2019, but that does not mean their search to find his eventual heir has been tabled.

General manager Dave Gettleman and Co. will continue to evaluate all available options this offseason, including potential free agents like Nick Foles of the Philadelphia Eagles.

While the situation with Foles is a fluid one, the overriding belief is that he will either be traded or eventually hit the open market, where a race for his services would undoubtedly unfold.

The Giants have been rumored to be a potential suitor simply because of their future need at the position, and it’s something Foles has apparently taken note of.

Zack Rosenblatt of NJ Advance Media reports that Foles will be keeping a close eye on the Giants and what, if anything, they decide to do with Manning.

Multiple people with knowledge of Foles’ thinking, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told NJ Advance Media that it’s “unlikely” he returns to the Eagles as Carson Wentz’s backup for 2019. Though, if Foles doesn’t find the starting job he’s seeking on the open market, that could change.

One team Foles is expected to keep tabs on: the New York Giants. Foles would “probably” be interested in joining the Eagles’ NFC East rival, one person with knowledge of Foles’ thinking said, if the Giants ultimately decide to move on from Eli Manning.

A Foles-Giants marriage would become less likely if the Eagles use the franchise tag on the University of Arizona alum.

Whether or not the Giants are equally interested in Foles is unclear, but you can bet they’re evaluating the quarterback nonetheless. And if he hits the open market, perhaps the Giants poke around. However, Foles is likely looking for a starting job that he won’t get in New York, at least not for the next year or so.
