Nick Foles has some strong opinions, and Matt Nagy loves it

One of the best assets a quarterback can bring to an offense is experience. A guy who’s been there, done that is the kind of player a coaching staff can trust and rely on, especially during a play gone bad.

That’s one of the reasons why Nick Foles feels like such an upgrade over Mitch Trubisky. His tenure in the NFL has had its down moments, but he’s also put together some of the game’s most memorable performances, like defeating Tom Brady and the Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

Foles has been through a lot — the highs and lows — and knows the kind of plays, pace, and strategy that works best for him on offense. He isn’t afraid to voice his opinion on those topics, either.

Coach Matt Nagy met with reporters on Zoom on Thursday and made it clear that he welcomes Foles’ opinions.

“You all are figuring out and understanding how opinionated Nick is, right?” said Nagy. “He is, and you like that about him. When you have those opinions, and you have stuff to back it up with the experience that he’s had, he’s kind of developed who he is now as a quarterback. What’s nice is that on the personal side, the relationship that we have with each other.”

Foles’ official record as the Bears’ starter is 1-1, although he deserves the ‘W’ for Week 3’s comeback victory over the Falcons. He’s completed 63.7% of his passes for 680 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions in what can best be described as an unpredictable and somewhat chaotic start to his time in Chicago.

“The games we’ve played in have shown a lot about our team and our locker room,” said Foles. “We’re not going to give up. We’re never out of a game. We’ve shown that. It’s been a wild first five games of the season. That being said, it just goes back to the same thing: we know the season is a long season, and there’s a lot of things that are going to happen.”
