Nick Foles had plans to retire before 2017 due to a ‘lingering elbow issue’

Upon him signing with the team, we’ve all heard the story about quarterback Nick Foles contemplating retirement before the 2017 season and the veteran was even asked about it in his opening presser. However, we didn’t know that the reason for it was a lingering injury issue — at least according to former teammate and Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham.

If Foles had an injury, Jags fans probably shouldn’t worry about his health as he was spinning the ball just fine during training camp and giving the Jags’ secondary a constant test. Besides, the veteran went on to have two of his best seasons after that by winning Super Bowl LII, becoming the game’s MVP and leading his team to and through the playoffs last season.

However, in the future they may want to switch up their approach behind him and look into selecting a quarterback in the top three-rounds of the draft to develop should an injury occur. Right now, Gardner Minshew is fighting to be that player, but as a sixth-round pick the odds are against him to be what the Jags are expecting.
