Nick Foles diagnosed with a broken left clavicle

According to several media members, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles has been diagnosed with a broken left clavicle. The news comes after the veteran exited Week 1’s 40-26 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Jags’ second offensive series.

The injury occurred when Foles dropped back in the pocket to connect with receiver DJ Chark for the Jags’ first touchdown. In the process of the play, Chiefs defensive tackle Christian Jones landed on Foles after taking him down, which resulted in the veteran getting up rather slowly.

Foles was immediately taken to the back for an X-ray and returned on the sidelines with a sling. Rookie Gardner Minshew was inserted into the game as a result and finished the afternoon 22-of-25 for 275 yards, two touchdowns and a pick.

After the game head coach Doug Marrone told the media that there wasn’t an immediate timetable on Foles return, but with him being their offensive leader, it’s definitely a tough blow.

After parting ways from Blake Bortles this offseason, the Jags signed Foles to a four-year deal worth $88 million with $50 million of it being guaranteed, which is the biggest contract in franchise history. Now, the organization is in a situation where they could be without their biggest investment for an undisclosed amount of time and will have to lean on Minshew to rally the team.

Minshew started in three preseason games for the Jags this summer going 54-of-96 for 468 passing yards. That experience seemly helped a lot as Minshew started the game hot, going 13-of-13. His time on the field also made him the first quarterback of the 2019 class to see regular season action and now it appears he’ll be the second signal-caller of the class to start.
