Nick Foles’ acquisition is drawing in weapons for the Jags’ offense

The Jacksonville Jaguars may have started the tampering period off slow with just two signings in acquiring quarterback Nick Foles and retaining guard A.J. Cann, but things picked up this weekend. They were able to add two pass catchers in tight end Geoff Swaim and receiver Chris Conley on Friday and Saturday, both of whom wanted to be a part of the team, but were especially intrigued by playing with Foles.

“I’m very excited,” Swaim said Friday. “Just evaluating options in free agency … being able to play with Nick and seeing the kind of style he plays … that was big for me to make my decision.”

Swaim, a former Dallas Cowboy, understands what Foles offers as well as anyone after playing in the same division with the veteran during his return to Philadelphia in 2017-18. In both seasons, Foles was able to turn heads after becoming Super Bowl LII’s MVP in February of 2018 and adding another postseason win this past January. Apparently, that didn’t go unnoticed by Swaim and now both will try and get the Jags on the same level.

Conley, on the other hand, was a teammate of Foles in Kansas City and told Jaguars.com that he knew the veteran would get a chance as a starter because it was something he discussed with Foles a couple of years back. When that moment came, Conley told Foles he’d be right there with him. He made that promise a reality Saturday when he signed with the Jags to help boost the offense and potentially join his friend in the team’s starting lineup.

With the Jaguars’ offense needing a ton of help coming into the offseason, it’s good to see that Foles’ addition had a trickle effect in free agency. Now it’s just a matter of the Jags adding more help in the draft and putting it all together on the field.
