Nick Ferrari apologises for Emiliano Sala joke at event with Charlie Sheen

Radio presenter Nick Ferrari apologised after making an ill-advised joke involving the death of Cardiff City footballer Emiliano Sala .

Argentine striker Sala died when the plane he was travelling in crashed into the English Channel in January on a journey from Nantes to Cardiff. The pilot of the plane, David Ibbotson, has not been found .

Ferrari was interviewing US actor Charlie Sheen at an event in London's Canary Wharf this weekend when he made the comment.

When asking about Sheen’s two professional nemeses — Donald Trump and TV writer Chuck Lorre — Ferrari presented a hypothetical scenario, the Evening Standard reports .

He said: “You get a trip back to Ireland, Charlie, and you’re flying over the Atlantic, but sadly the plane has been organised by Cardiff City Football Club and it doesn’t get there and you crash in the Atlantic sea.

“Charlie Sheen, you’re alone in the two-man dinghy. In front of you two people are drowning: Donald Trump and Chuck Lorre. You can only save one: who and why?”

Cardiff City have previously confirmed they did not organise the plane carrying Sala on January 21, with football agent Willie McKay confirming he arranged the flight but saying he had no part in choosing the plane or pilot.

It is reported that audience members shouted and booed the LBC radio presenter's question.

A spokesperson for Global, the owners of LBC, confirmed Mr Ferrari apologised for his comment after the event.
