Nick Curtis is named Chief Theatre Critic as Evening Standard reviews go live

Evening Standard writer Nick Curtis has been announced as the paper’s new Chief Theatre Critic.

Curtis, who over 25 years with the paper has written reviews, columns and features, will start in the job later this month.

He will be joined by the Standard’s Digital Arts Editor Jessie Thompson who already regularly contributes to the paper’s arts pages.

Among the innovations being introduced by the new team are live reviews of major shows meaning Londoners will be able to read online our critics’ first takes on the biggest shows on opening night.

Editor George Osborne said: “Great arts coverage is at the heart of the Evening Standard, and it’s only going to get better. I want our readers to have access to the best, comprehensive and informed information about London’s incredible theatre — not just in our paper, as now, but online too.

“It’s brilliant to welcome Nick to the arts team. He shares our deep love for and commitment to the stage, with years of experience in the sector. Jessie’s digital expertise will also be crucial as we ensure we continue to deliver content which is always on the pulse.”

The paper’s long-running annual Theatre Awards will be held later this year.
