Nick Cordero's wife opens up about Broadway star's leg amputation during coronavirus battle

Nick Cordero's wife has opened up about his surgery to amputate his right leg, following complications that arose during his battle with coronavirus.

Amanda Cloots said the Broadway actor is currently in a medically induced coma after the surgery. Before the amputation, he had suffered from blood clots while on a ventilator and machine used to help oxygenate the blood.

“It came down to a point where honestly it was life or leg, and we had to choose life,'' Kloots told Today host Kathy Park. ”I choose life.“

“They put the ECMO machine in him to save his life. It was literally to save his life, and it did, thank God.

"And sometimes the repercussion of putting that machine on can cause some blood issues and it did with his leg.”

Kloots has been sharing regular updates about Cordero to her social media followers. Recently, she encouraged fans to sing and dance to his songs while using the hashtag #WakeUpNick.

“It is honestly how I'm getting through this," she said of the social media support. "People I don't even know all over the world are joining me every day at 3pm to sing his song so that he can hear us."

She has also been making home videos of her and 10-month-old son, Elvis, to show Cordero once he is out of the coma.
