Nick Clegg's wife says George Clooney should play him in film

George Clooney as Nick Clegg? It may seem a little far-fetched, but it’s the casting choice his wife would like to see.

To clarify, Miriam Gonzales Durantez said this on ITV’s Lorraine, so it was definitely a bit tongue in cheek, but we’ll go with it. Talking about the 90-minute Channel 4 drama about the formation of the coalition administration, Gonzales Durantez was presented with a number of options to play her husband including Benedict Cumberbatch, Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens, Colin Firth or comic Ricky Gervais.

“Is George Clooney available?” she asked.

Who do you think should play Clegg in the upcoming drama, titled Coalition? And who should take the roles of his coalition colleagues - including David Cameron and George Osborne? What about Labour figures such as Gordon Brown, Harriet Harman and Ed Miliband?

Most importantly: who’s going to play Eric Pickles?

Readers, you are our casting directors. Let us know your top picks in the comments and we’ll feature the best cast above the line.

Here are a few of your suggestions:

The idea of casting Clegg immediately made me think of Hugh Laurie in Blackadder. So, maybe Rowan Atkinson as Cameron and Tony Robinson as Miliband to complete the set.
As for others, Eric Pickles brings the late, great Robert Morley to mind. Paul Daniels would make a good Hague and maybe Glenda Jackso could stand in for Harriet Harman.

Let Steve Bell and Martin Rowsome make a feature length cartoon film. No problems about actors then. Clegg would be bits of wood.

Ross Kemp to play William Hague.

The guy that plays The Penguin in Gotham to play George Osborne.
