Nick Cave's Idiot Prayer concert film to be screened in UK cinemas this November

Nick Cave’s performance inside an empty Alexandra Palace will be screened in cinemas later this year.

The film, titled Idiot Prayer, will be screened across the UK and the rest of the world from November 5, followed by a release on vinyl, CD and streaming services on November 20.

The footage was originally screened as part of a live-streaming event, in which Cave played piano within the vast, deserted West Hall of the north London venue.

He delivered pared-back renditions of 22 career-spanning songs, covering his work with the Bad Seeds, Grinderman and beyond.

It was filmed by cinematographer Robbie Ryan, whose filmography covers The Favourite, Marriage Story and more, while Nick Emerson (Lady Macbeth, Emma, Greta) was the editor.

Cave said: “On June 19, 2020, surrounded by Covid officers with tape measures and thermometers, masked-up gaffers and camera operators, nervous looking technicians and buckets of hand gel, we created something very strange and very beautiful that spoke into this uncertain time, but was in no way bowed by it.

“This is the album taken from that film. It is a prayer into the void — alone at Alexandra Palace — a souvenir from a strange and precarious moment in history. I hope you enjoy it.”

Tickets for the screenings will be on sale from September 10 and will be available to buy here.
