Nick Castellanos mockingly took a walk after the umpire’s questionable strikeout call

Baseball had its share of weird moments on Tuesday. We had a Pirates player getting called out on a home run because he failed to touch first base. We then had Royals prospect Bobby Witt Jr. getting called out on a home run for failing to touch the plate.

It got even stranger with Reds outfielder Nick Castellanos — but at least his out-of-the-ordinary reaction was fueled by pettiness instead of, you know, forgetting how to baseball.

During Tuesday’s game against the Brewers, Castellanos was called out on a third strike call that was clearly below the strike zone. So, instead of arguing with home plate umpire Will Little after the 3-2 pitch, Castellanos showed his displeasure by pretending to take first base on a walk.

For a moment, it really looked like Castellanos was actually going to first base. He temporarily deked out the Reds broadcast before peeling away to the dugout.

Little didn’t seem to take exception to Castellanos doing that either, which was surprisingly reasonable for an umpire. There are plenty of umps who would have tossed Castellanos for showing him up or whatever, but Little did miss the call. We can all laugh at Castellanos’ reaction to it.
