Nick Bosa on track to play in 49ers’ season opener

Nick Bosa early in training camp told reporters he was on track to play in the 49ers’ season opener. Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that timeline Sunday.

“I believe so. That’s been the plan all along,” Shanahan said of Bosa playing in Week 1. “There’s been no setbacks. He’s doing great right now.”

Bosa is getting regular days off as part of a maintenance schedule to ensure he’s healthy by the Sept. 12 opener in Detroit. He was off Sunday prior to a team day off Monday.

He tore his ACL in Week 2 of last season, so he’ll be almost exactly a year removed from the injury by the time the 2021 season begins. Avoiding setbacks is all that matters for the star defensive end in camp. As long as he’s on the field for San Francisco, their defense has a chance to be one of the league’s best.
