Nick Bosa diagnosed with hamstring strain

Nick Bosa left the 49ers’ second practice of OTAs with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. The team confirmed that Thursday when they announced the rookie defensive tackle had a Grade 1 hamstring strain that would sideline him for a few weeks.

It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the 49ers sit Bosa for the rest of the offseason program until training camp. That will start sometime in late July.

Injuries were a concern for Bosa when San Francisco selected him with the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft. He was limited to just three games in his final year at Ohio State because of surgery on a core muscle injury. Bosa also dealt with a groin injury last year, and tore his ACL in high school.

Luckily the tweak in his hamstring wasn’t serious, and came at a time when the team can afford to let him rest and receive treatment. Hamstring injuries can linger, so ensuring that he’s fully healthy when he retakes the field is going to be essential.
