Nick Blackwell was taken to hospital after being stopped in the 10th round of his British middleweight title defence against Chris Eubank Jr.

Eubank Jr dominated the fight at Wembley Arena and never appeared in any trouble, with the doctor deciding Blackwell was unable to see sufficiently from his left eye.

The challenger landed punches from the off and found it easy to evade Blackwell, who as the fight went on looked more and more like he would need a knockout to retain his belt. But that never looked forthcoming.

Eubank Jr appeared as if he was tiring but he did enough in the early rounds to have won on points had it gone the distance.

Blackwell’s eye had been closing for a few rounds and blood was coming out of his nose when the referee stopped the fight.

“I hit him with some big shots, maybe the referee should have stopped the fight earlier,” Eubank Jr said.

Blackwell was taken from the ring on a stretcher and went straight to hospital as a precaution.

The world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury was among those to send him a get-well message. “will u all pray for @nickblackwell02 please ASAP as he has been taken to hospital, God be with him,” he wrote.
