Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan - review

nick and norahs infinite playlist

I was very excited to begin reading this book due to the reviews from my friends, I had very high expectations and let's just say they were fulfilled.

The book is written in the narrative of two characters, Nick and Norah, who meet at a concert and become boyfriend and girlfriend for 5 minutes. It continues into their adventures of their night together and how these bring them closer together when they realise how many similarities they have. This is an unconventional love story that shows a couple brought together by their love of a band and their desperation to prove people wrong.

Each event is shown from one character's point of view and you have the inside thoughts of each of them. You have an overlap of the other's views on the event. This gives you a 360 view of what happened and how they feel the other could have responded. It shows how different yet how similar they are because they have the same turmoils yet they respond in a personal way and learn from the other. This helps you see how their relationship develops due to the actions they take.

Sometimes the split narrative can be confusing due to the differences in the style of writing the different writers apply to their character. In a way this also gives you an idea of the character's personality due to the more relaxed style of Nick (written by David Levithan) and the more uptight and careful Nora (written by Rachel Cohn).
