'Nice try' - Newcastle United fans react to statement on transfer window 'disaster'

Newcastle United fans have reacted in disbelief to a club statement outlining the Magpies' approach to the summer transfer window.

United have come under scrutiny from fans and pundits alike for their business in the most recent window, with Joe Willock proving to be the only senior recruit secured.

Academy prospect Santiago Munoz arrived on loan on deadline day, but there were no further additions to a squad which had seen a host of names such as Andy Carroll, Florian Lejeune, and Yoshinori Muto exit this summer.

Steve Bruce's side have made a poor start to the season, having earned just one point from their opening three Premier League fixtures while exiting the Carabao Cup at the first hurdle to Burnley.

The Magpies released a statement on Friday afternoon in an attempt to clarify their approach this summer, outlining the financial ramifications of Covid-19 and the outlay on Willock as reasons why it was an otherwise quiet window.

However, it was a communication which was largely derided by supporters on social media who were evidently not convinced by the club's justifications.

Here is how Newcastle United fans reacted to the transfer window statement.

'That's just me'

'Disaster'

'Nothing's changed'

'Nice try'

'Neglecting every facet of the club'

'Lame excuse'

'We were lucky'

'Don't believe any of this'
