Amateur video footage has captured the moment a lorry drove through large crowds of people in Nice, killing dozens and leaving hundreds injured.
The vehicle travelled at high speed along the Promenade des Anglais before ploughing into hundreds of people who had gathered for Bastille Day celebrations.
The footage shows several people running after the lorry before it reaches the crowds, seemingly trying to prevent the disaster, before what sounds like gunshots can be heard.
One motorcyclist, possibly a police officer, drives alongside the lorry before the bike appears to fall to the ground at the sound of a gunshot.
The lorry continues towards the crowds and screams can be heard as it approaches.
The vehicle then disappears from the camera view but people can be seen dispersing in panic.
Witnesses have said the driver swerved from side to side as he drove for hundreds of metres through the crowd.
After travelling several hundred metres the driver was shot by police. Firearms and grenades were reportedly found in the vehicle after the incident.
French media have identified the driver as a 31-year-old French-Tunisian man.
President Francois Hollande has said the country's state of emergency would be extended for another three months.
A military operation is in place allowing the mobilisation of 10,000 troops.
