Niamh McCarthy wins bronze for Ireland at World Para-Athletics Championships in Dubai

Niamh McCarthy won Ireland's first medal at the 2019 World Para-Athletics Championships in Dubai on Tuesday.

The Cork woman had a throw of 29.70 metres in her fourth attempt to win the bronze medal in the F41 discus.

She said afterwards:  "That was probably one of the hardest competitions I've ever done.

"It’s not something I ever want to do again, but it went my way in the end, so I can only be happy that I’m coming away with a medal."

It's was her third time winning a World medal after bronze in Doha in 2015 and silver in London two years ago.
