Niall Quinn excited FAI’s Governance Review group can deliver ‘meaningful change'

Niall Quinn is hoping the FAI’s Governance Review group can deliver ‘meaningful change’.

The former Irish international is fronting an eight-person group that wants to transform the League of Ireland and aspects of Irish football.

And his group will discuss its proposal with Minister for Sport, Shane Ross - as well as other stakeholders in Irish football - at a Mansion House forum on Friday morning.

While a draft of the Quinn-led proposal was leaked in a Sunday newspaper, it is believed there is more meat on the bones in the full document.

At a Virgin Media event in Dublin today to promote TV coverage of the Champions League and Europa League finals, Quinn tight-lipped on those plans.

"I'm happy to disclose information to the Minister and the other stakeholders on Friday,” he said, insisting he would not disclose more information until he meets Ross.

"The group is really excited and happy that we’ve submitted what we think is a worthwhile proposal and a set of ideas to the Governance Review group.

"We're looking forward to discussing those ideas with the Minister and the other stakeholders at the forum on Friday, where other ideas will be floated too.

"We're looking forward to the feedback on that and seeing where it's all heading and if the Governance Review group are going to deliver the opportunity for meaningful change.”

Virgin Media Television is the home of European Football this week with live coverage of the UEFA Europa League Final on Wednesday 29th May from 6.30pm on both Virgin Media Two & Virgin Media Sport and the UEFA Champions League Final on Saturday 1st June from 6pm on Virgin Media One & Virgin Media Sport.
