Niall O'Brien: Funeral details for tragic Limerick student killed in Greece confirmed

The funeral details for Niall O'Brien, the tragic Limerick student killed while holidaying in Greece, have been confirmed.

Niall, from Limerick, who was on holiday with a group of 20 friends, died from serious head injuries following an alleged altercation with another man in the town of Chora.

It is alleged Mr O’Brien was punched and “hit his head as he fell on the ground”. He died later in hospital.

Mr O’Brien was a star hurler with Broadford GAA in South East Clare, and a member and employee of Castletroy Golf Club in Limerick.

He will be buried on Monday, according to RIP.IE

The official notice reads: "Niall is survived by his adoring parents Mike and Anne, his broken hearted brothers Cian, Eoin and Alan, grandparents Basil and Rita Boyce; uncles and aunts Cathal & Joanne, Diarmuid & Fiona, Ray & Sandra, Ollie & Fiona; Eileen & James, James & Brid, Pat & Caroline, Pauline & Stephen, PJ & Mary, John & Noelette, Tony & Helen, Arthur and Niall’s many dear cousins.

"Reposing at his parents residence (87 Monaleen Pk, Castletroy, Limerick Eircode V94 T4AP) this Sunday (5th September) from 3pm to 7pm.

"Arriving for Funeral Mass on Monday (6th September) at 3:30pm in Our Lady help of Christians Church, Milford (Eircode V94 X832) followed by burial afterwards in the St Peter's Church grounds, Broadford, Co. Clare.

"Funeral cortège will leave the family home at 3:10pm approx on the way to the Church.

"Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust."

A man arrested in connection with the death appeared before a court on Thursday.

The Irishman, 20, who was not known to Niall O’Brien, was arrested on the island of Ios following the 22-year-old’s death last Monday.
