Niall Huggins set for medical ahead of Sunderland transfer from Leeds United

Leeds United youngster Niall Huggins is set for his medical ahead of a proposed move to Wearside.

That's according to Pete O'Rourke who claims that the Leeds United left-back is on the verge of becoming Sunderland's seventh summer signing.

His arrival would all but end Denver Hume's chances of a return to the Stadium of Light, even though Huggins is comfortable on either side of the back four.

Speculation suggests that Huggins will move to the Black Cats on a free transfer, but the Whites will have some sort of sell-on clause inserted into the deal - much like Tony Gallacher's proposed move which broke down.

Sunderland are believed to have fought off competition from the Championship, with Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers reportedly keen on the Whites youngster.

Huggins has already made his Premier League bow for Marcelo Bielsa's side, coming off the bench against Arsenal at the Emirates last season.

He put in an assured performance and his impending departure has raised some eyebrows at Elland Road.
