Niall Horan on the ‘light and shade’ of grief after Liam Payne’s death

  • Niall Horan has spoken about his initial denial and ongoing grief following the death of his One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne, who died in October 2024 after falling from a third-story hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
  • Horan revealed in an interview with The Times that he had seen Payne in Argentina just weeks before his death, cherishing the happy memory of Payne supporting him at a concert.
  • Despite the sadness, Horan shared that his grief is also accompanied by laughter and smiles as he recalls fond memories with Payne, noting that their families have remained in contact, adding that there is a “light and shade” to his grief.
  • The Irish singer has dedicated a song titled End of an Era on his forthcoming solo album to Payne, believing it is the kind of track his late bandmate would have enjoyed.
  • Horan also acknowledged fellow bandmate Louis Tomlinson's tribute song, Dark to Light , emphasising the shared sense of loss felt by both the band members and their fanbase.
