NIA cop saves two youths from drowning in Pong Lake in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra

CHANDIGARH: A cop working with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) saved two youths from drowning in Pong Lake in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.

As per the information, on June 18, at around 2pm, Naresh Kumar, who is working as Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) with Chandigarh branch office of the premier central agency, was at Pong Dam, Kangra near his hometown.

He had gone there with his family and when he was near the lake an unfortunate incident happened.

"Four young boys who were swimming in Pong lake went deeper and were about to drown. ASI Naresh, without risking his life, went to save them. He single-handedly managed to save the life of two persons namely Manjeet and Shuvam, both residents of Daulatpur, Una, Himachal Pradesh. Unfortunately, the other two could not be saved," said the sources. He later informed the 112 helpline about the incident.

However, those who died were identified as Amit Kumar, 26, and his cousin Rajat, 23, both residents of Daulatpur in Una.

While Rajat was an employee of Himachal Pradesh government, Amit was serving in the army.
