NI weather warning for heavy rain

The Met office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain in Northern Ireland this afternoon.

The warning has been in place from 3:10pm this afternoon and is expected to end at 9pm tonight - it comes off the back of a yellow warning that ended at 8am this morning.

The Met office says interruption to power supplies and other services is likely.

The Met office posted: "Heavy showers will continue through the rest of this afternoon and onwards into this evening.

"Some of these showers will be quite prolonged and a few places may see 10-20mm of rain in an hour or two leading to surface water flooding on some roads.

"The heaviest showers look most likely to be over western, southern and central parts of Northern Ireland.

"Heavy showers may cause some travel disruption.

"Here is what to expect: Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely.

"Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer.

"Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer.

"Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely."
