Belfast Westlink reopens after PSNI attend to 'incident'

The A12 Westlink has reopened after it was closed in both directions for some time on Friday morning.

All M2 and M3 bound traffic was affected, being diverted off the Grosvenor Road, however this has now stopped and knock on delays are expected.

Police were in attendance this morning.

A spokesperson told Belfast Live: "The matter has now been resolved."

The A12 Westlink was closed in both directions from around 6am until shortly after 7:20am on Friday.

A Trafficwatch NI tweet read: The A12 Westlink has just been reopened in both directions. However expect some knock on delays until traffic returns to normal. (07:22am)"

A spokesperson for Translink said: "All Metro 10 services and West Belfast Glider services are being diverted in/out via the Grosvernor Road until further notice due to closure of Divis St/Westlink."

Meanwhile, on Thursday Health Minister Robin Swann instructed Trusts to put in place, with immediate effect, the provision of free car parking to HSC staff until 31 March 2021.

Mr Swann said: “As our valued staff enter into a most challenging and pressurised time, I hope that this provides some welcome news.”

The move follows Thursday's budgetary announcement of additional funding allocated to the Department of Health for free staff car parking until the end of March 2021.
